Dragon Helicopters’ Type Rating Courses

After completing your Private Pilot’s Licence, you may want to type rate onto a different helicopter to increase your experience or learn how to fly a larger type so that you can take your friends and family out with you. If you are a newly-qualified Commercial Pilot, you will probably need turbine experience and a Bell 206 rating, the most widely-used helicopter type in VFR public transport flying.

Type ratings are required for each different type of helicopter you want to fly and are added onto your licence. The minimum required course durations are three to eight hours plus a skill test, depending on aircraft type: you may need or want to fly more hours than this. There is also a written type technical examination to complete.

Dragon Helicopters also provide Differences Training where required, for example, pilots rated on Jet Rangers who will be flying a Long Ranger for the first time.
