Joint Aviation Authorities Private Pilot’s Licence (Helicopters)

Obtaining a PPL(H) is a rewarding and fulfilling experience. The Joint Aviation Authorities regulate aviation in 21 European nations to the highest standards. A JAA PPL(H) therefore gives you the freedom of the sky, not just in this country but throughout the World.

All our training strictly adheres to the JAA PPL(H) syllabus to ensure high standards of instruction and quality assurance. Each modular course is designed to give the flight experience and aviation technical knowledge stipulated for the issue of a PPL(H) in a time frame to suit the student.

Flight training is generally conducted in our Schweizer 300 aircraft. This helicopter was specifically designed for training pilots, unlike the more commonly-used R22, and is a much more stable and forgiving platform for ab initio students, enabling faster progress through the course.

Requirements for obtaining a PPL(H) include a minimum of 45 hours flight instruction, at least ten of which must be solo, and successful completion of seven multiple-choice JAA examinations. A JAA Class 2 medical is also required and the licence is issued on successful completion of a final handling test with an approved JAA examiner.

Private Pilot’s Licence flight training (Schweizer 300) £270 per flight hour plus VAT. Discounts are available for advance pre-payment of ten, twenty or forty hour blocks.

Training is also available on Robinson R44, Robinson R22 and Bell 206, subject to aircraft availability. Please contact the office for current instruction prices on other aircraft types.
