After completion of your Commercial Pilot’s Licence (Helicopters)...

...you’ve nearly achieved the goal you’ve been striving towards for a long time but there are a few final elements of training to complete before you can work as a public transport pilot!

Crew Resource Management course – all commercial pilots need to complete a CRM course and hold a current certificate, issued on completion of a course with an approved instructor.

First Aid Training – commercial pilots are required to have completed basic first aid training and to hold a certificate demonstrating that their knowledge is current.

Fire Training – commercial pilots need to undertake training in basic fire theory and be familiar with the correct procedures for tackling fire in flight in the helicopter types they will be operating.

Operational Proficiency Check – pilots flying on an Air Operator’s Certificate need to complete an OPC flight with their Training Captain. The OPC tests competency on each aircraft type to be flown by the pilot on the AOC and is conducted every six months.

Line Training – in addition to the OPC flight, a pilot flying on an AOC must undertake line training with the AOC’s Training Captain at least every twelve months. The line training flight will consist of a detail relevant to the type of work conducted on the AOC.

Emergency Equipment and Procedures Check – this check is to ensure that the pilot has appropriate knowledge of the emergency equipment, systems and procedures on the relevant aircraft type.
